Understanding Who We Are

The Victory Fire Department, Inc. is not just a fire company; it's the heartbeat of our rural community in Cayuga County, New York. Founded in the 1940s and incorporated in the 1960s, we are a proud 501(c)(3) organization comprised entirely of volunteers. Our dedicated members provide fire protection and emergency response services without direct charges to our residents, ensuring safety in a community with minimal tax revenue.

Our Commitment to Community Safety

We serve part of the Town of Victory, a farming community with no grocery stores and gas stations, where the average household income is around $68,000. Our team consists of over 20 active volunteers, including:

  • Interior firefighters trained in emergency response
  • Junior members learning the ropes

Together, we strive to ensure the safety and well-being of our neighbors, responding swiftly to fires and other emergencies.

Funding Our Mission

Approximately 78% of our funding comes from an annual contract with the Town of Victory, which helps us maintain our operations. However, as a volunteer organization, we rely on additional support to fulfill our mission. Our fundraising activities include:

  • Delicious BBQ fundraisers
  • An annual envelope drive

These efforts not only provide essential funding but also strengthen our bonds with the community we serve.

Our Facilities: A Blend of History and Progress

The evolution of our firehouse reflects our commitment to the community. The original part of our fire station was built in the 1960s, constructed on the foundation of a former cheese factory. In 2019, we expanded our facilities to enhance our capabilities and preparedness for emergencies.

Meet Our Mascot: The Hose Rat

Every great organization has a friendly face that embodies its spirit. Meet The Hose Rat, our beloved mascot whose playful antics help bridge the gap between the fire department and the community. Whether at events or fundraisers, The Hose Rat reminds everyone about the essential service we provide while bringing smiles to all ages.

How You Can Help

Your support is crucial in keeping our fire department operational. Here are a few ways you can contribute:

  • Attend our BBQ fundraisers: Enjoy good food while supporting a great cause.
  • Participate in our envelope drive: Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference.
  • Spread the word: Inform your friends and neighbors about our services and fundraising events.

Conclusion

The Victory Fire Department, Inc. stands as a testament to the resilience and spirit of our rural community. With the dedication of our volunteers and the support of our residents, we continue to protect and serve with pride. Together, we can ensure that our community remains safe and strong.
